Selling Out

Greetings, Little Pirates!

(When Carol and I took a multi-day sailing class years ago, our captain found it amusant to call us Little Pirates several times a day, every day, despite the fact that we were neither. So now I’m passing the sobriquet along to you all, in absentia. Thank me later.)

Reading the title of this article, you will no doubt think you have stumbled onto a political memoir, but take heart: it is simply a nod to the fact that our little booth at Labor Day weekend’s Art in the Park festival did pretty well — even selling out some of the items that we brought along! To be clear, it’s not like we made enough to start up that hedge fund I’m always going on about, but it was more than we spent a dozen years ago to have dinner at The Inn at Little Washington in Virginia. (Sorry, that was an inside joke for my wife’s benefit. She’s the only one that reads this rubbish anyway.)

So, all in all a successful weekend.

Given that, since we got back from our cross country trip we’d done nothing but prepare feverishly for the festival, today we’ve been taking a well-earned break at long last. For Carol, that meant a methodical dismantling of all the games on the New York Times site; while for me, it was a nice, long walk around Los Osos… taking pictures. And doing laundry, which for some reason is deeply calming to my id.

Anyway, here are a few of the photos I snapped around town. The weather was awesome, the tide was out, and all was more or less right with the world. And for all you Little Pirates, I’ve included a flower-garnished pirate ship for you to dream on.

A heron, still trailing water from its feet, rises from the calm blue water of the back bay.
