How to Buy My Pictures
Given all the different options available to you when buying a picture (size, framed or not framed, print medium, and so forth), it would be difficult for me — and maybe a little baffling for you — to use an order form for ordering one of my images. It really requires that we talk through all the options together, so that you get the best version of the image you’re looking for.
And that’s really the way it should be when buying art. Art is a special enhancement to your life, that hopefully will be meaningful to you for many years; it’s not like buying a pair of insoles from Amazon.
So please use the Contact page to start the conversation. If you want to push things along a little faster, you can let me know the title of the image you want to buy, and the length you would prefer for the longest side. That way, I can reply with prices for the various alternative treatments — framed, unframed, metalprint, acrylic, printing and backing materials, etc. — and you can choose how you’d like to proceed.
My Prices
I charge the cost of the printed image, plus 30%, plus any shipping charges. That is on the low end of what professional photographers charge, and far below gallery prices; I don’t think art should be the sole province of the well-off.
If you want your picture framed, I additionally charge the cost of the frame materials plus $20/hour for framing and matting (minimum 1 hour). Plan on an average of about a month for fabrication and shipping of framed images.
Originals
Would you like your image to be exclusive to you, and no one else? Some of my pictures can be bought as originals — where you possess the only physical copy, the image is removed from my website, and no other copies are sold. I retain copyright for the picture (as well as the sole digital version), and it goes into my retired photo vault.
Needless to say, if an image has already been sold in any format, it is no longer available as an original.
Because an exclusive picture can no longer be advertised or re-sold, the price for an original is substantially higher than the same image sold non-exclusively. To find out more about pricing, please drop me a line on the Contact page, and let me know the photo you’re interested in.
