Hello again, my droogies! Once again, I have been a very tardy boy in updating this blog; in recompense, though, you should be seeing some nice changes in the offing throughout the website, including lots of new photos in the expanded gallery! (Coming this week or next week, depending on how seriously I take my other life obligations.)
After spending three weeks back in our old Virginia haunts, Carol and I belted back across the country in our sturdy Hyundai, and got back to the breezy Central Coast last week-ish. Despite driving some looooong days, we still managed to take time out in several places for the indispensable business of taking pictures. You can see one of the products at the top of the article — a view on the lonely road from Wyoming to Ely, Nevada, where we stayed at the Hotel Nevada, a very cool historic hotel and casino. Once the tallest building in the state (which I suppose tells you a lot about Nevada), the hotel has been frequented in the past by many luminaries, including Lyndon Johnson, Mickey Rooney, and Stephen King. Who would, when you think about it, make for a great “three guys walk into a bar” joke.
While we were still in Wyoming, Carol and I took a detour south into Utah to check out the really breathtaking scenery of Flaming Gorge — a red-rock canyon that narrows and deepens to a beautiful reservoir at the bottom end. Here’s a snapshot I picked up on the road back north toward Wyoming:

For most of our trip back to California we stayed north — the south being more or less on fire with daily temps commonly above 100. Toward the end, though, we had to swoop south in order to sweep around the Sierras into the lovely Bakersfield corridor, and ended up in the broiler for the remaining hours of the trip. We were compensated somewhat, though, when we took a detour through the Kern River valley and found some pretty eye-catching terrain there. The joshua trees, backed by sand colored hills, made for a very blonde and handsome landscape.

As it happened, I got my ass roundly honked at by a passing driver while I was taking this photo. Okay, I was standing in the road, but I was totally in my own lane. And yes, I know the other photos in the article have white frames while this one doesn’t. A foolish consistency being the hobgoblin of little minds, and all that.
Anyway, we are now thankfully back into the cool, sunny skies and morning fogs of Morro Bay/Los Osos — just in time to make the products of our artistic labors available at Morro Bay’s Art in the Park event for Labor Day weekend (Sept 5-7). If you’re anywhere near Morro Bay, swing by and see us! I might even have some business cards by then, with my new business name: Rosco Fine Arts.
If you can’t make it, no worries: I’ll be back after with an update on how things went down. And don’t forget to check out this site in the next couple weeks to see the renovations!
